Advanced  Driving Instructor, Driving Examiner

and current ADI (6)  who recently appeared

on BBC 2 'How safe are Britain's roads'

on BBC Radio Oxford and

BBC Radio Berkshire.

Our 'Driving Days' have been a great success with

police officers, IAM members, RoSPA members, HPC members, advanced drivers, DSA driving instructors, chauffeurs, driving enthusiasts, new drivers and many returning clients. Chris also helped worried parents

and quite a number of drivers who had lost confidence

in their driving. To see details of what our clients

thought of their 'Driving Day' experience

It is our view and experience that the very best people to teach advanced driving on the public highway are Class 1 police advanced drivers who have many years of police operational driving experience and more importantly, have experience of teaching a range of police advanced driving techniques at a Police Driving School, such as the world famous Metropolitan Police Motor Driving School Hendon, where Chris served for 22 years.

Advanced Driving Days in 2014 & 2015

Advanced driving days operate during two periods of the year only.

All available dates for the whole of 2014 have now been booked!

Please consider booking early for 2015

A surge in bookings is largely the result of clients who have experienced one of Chris's Driving Days wanting to return to experience another, also their

recommendation to friends.

"I recently attended a full driving day with Chris. "Excellent" is not a word I often use but on this occasion I have no hesitation in using it. I am an advanced driver trainer and I had a particular set of goals for my driving day with Chris. I have to say that Chris helped me address all of them. His relaxed style and manner put me at ease immediately. He listened carefully to me which really helped to establish rapport and the manner in which he imparted information was second to none. I went to quite a bit of trouble to attend the day as I was traveling from Ireland and I can categorically say that it was more than worth it - in fact I would very much like to do it again next year! His expertise and his ability to explain are exemplary. His support after the day was also of great assistance, which I feel is really important. Excellent day Chris and excellent service, thank you very much!"

Colm Branigan, Dublin, Ireland.

Monday 27th January through to Friday 30th May 2014

All dates for this first period have now been booked

"Thanks for a fantastic day Chris!  I have attended a couple of Advanced Driver Courses with trainers who are only ADI's with a diploma. I have now experienced with you, the vast difference there is in having a former, highly experienced, Police Advanced Driving Instructor teach me. I now know I have previously wasted my money with instructors who have no idea what advanced driving is.

   Thanks a million Chris".

"In 2010 I was involved in a car accident in which my car was a write off and I received serious injuries. I have since suffered a loss of confidence and many anxious moments when I'm driving. After speaking with Chris on the phone I decided to book a day with him and my husband came too for moral support.

I needn't have worried because Chris was a charming, kind, understanding gentleman and a superb instructor, who guided me through my problems. His explanations were clear and easy to understand and I learnt so much more about driving. My confidence has returned and I am no longer anxious behind the wheel. Thanks Chris, I recommend you highly".

Chris Gilbert - Specialist Advanced Driving Instructor

Because of his driving history and instructional experience Chris was selected to give driver training to Prince William, Prince Harry, The Duchess of York,

The Duchess of Gloucester and The Earl of Ulster.

There are very few, if any, other driving instructors in the UK who have Chris's

background and experience in driver training. Chris has been involved in driver training

for 50 years, teaching learner drivers as an RAC Registered Driving Instructor and later, as a Police Sergeant, Class1 Driver and Advanced Driving Instructor, he covered over

a million instructional miles training police officers in powerful cars to drive safely at high speed on the public highway in 999 and pursuit driving. As a staff trainer Chris also trained many police class 1 drivers and civilians to become police driving instructors.

Chris now specialises teaching members of the public, professional drivers and DSA driving instructors, police advanced driving techniques based on Roadcraft,

at normal speed.

In 1990 Chris was a member of a Government Home Office Working Party tasked with

updating the police driver's manual - Roadcraft. Most recently, he has been involved with the Police Foundation and TSO in updating the 2013 edition of Roadcraft. He taught passenger coach (PCV) driving and large articulated goods vehicle (LGV) driving. Chris also holds a DSA ADI grade 6, which is the highest grade awarded by the Driving Standards Agency to Driving Instructors. In fact, Chris has never

held a lower grade of ADI Licence.

He was also a Police Advanced Driving Examiner, a LSD/RoSPA Driving Examiner

and authorised by the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police to conduct LGV and PCV

driving test for police purposes. In 1991 Chris attended a one month course at DSA

Cardington and was trained as a DSA Delegated PCV/LGV Driving Examiner. For

"Good driving, like many worthwhile and demanding activities, is best approached through expert tuition, study and meaningful practice. Although, over the years, I have taken the RoSPA Advanced Test three times, achieving a Gold pass on each occasion, I still regard myself as a student in many areas, which led me to take a full-day course with Chris Gilbert, using some delightful roads in Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Wiltshire. Anyone wishing to improve his or her driving will find Chris's coaching gentle yet purposeful, his explanations thoughtful and easy to understand, and his

friendly encouragement an ideal way of imparting skills. The whole experience was most

enjoyable and rewarding"  John Knott - West Sussex

What is a 'Driving Day'?

It is a day, or half a day, that will be tailored to suit your individual requirements and needs, be it back to basics or very top end advanced driving. The very best people to provide this service are police class 1 drivers with operational experience who have

also been Police Advanced Driving Instructors with years of experience at a Police Driving School. The objective is to improve your driving skills, knowledge of driving and

have answered all the questions you have ever thought of. A 'Driving Day' is aimed at

any driver with a full driving licence seeking to improve their driving skills.

We have had a number of parents contact us worried about their son or daughter's

driving, particularly those who have recently passed their driving test. Chris is able

to help in these situations too. Please read Customer Reviews

Chris welcomes nervous drivers and those who have lost confidence in driving for

whatever reason.

Chris on a one to one basis, in your car, which can be anything from a Ford to a Ferrari, will instruct, coach and encourage you to achieve your goals. You can choose a

half day or full day. However, Chris is very flexible so on the day you can increase or decrease your driving time. Charges relate accordingly.

Chris generally uses the roads he used for 22 years teaching police officers

advanced driving skills, so the roads are both enjoyable and challenging to drive.

There are some excellent, instructional value driving roads in nearby Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

If you would like to join your husband, wife, son, daughter, partner or friend in the

car as an observer, you are welcome to do so at no extra charge.

Style of Instruction

Chris has a very relaxed, understanding and friendly style of instruction devoid of

any sarcasm, his manner and delivery will help to create the best relaxed and calm teaching environment so that effective learning takes place. Chris likes to create a 'mobile classroom' and have short stops, invite questions and give feedback and encouragement. He has vast experience as a driver trainer and driving examiner

allowing him to quickly assess and recognise your strengths and the areas

which may require some development.

Passive Learning

Consider sharing a full driving day with a friend, relative or colleague. Many driving instructor clients do this. Passive learning is a most effective way to learn by watching and listening the other person, then rotating. Validating the learning is best achieved as a witness in the back seat after having driven. All UK police driving schools use passive learning with three students. However, three sharing a single day is one too many.

Availability

To keep fresh, avoid 'burn out' and to retain pleasure from his work, Chris only operates his driving days two or three days a week. Therefore, Driving Day availability is limited. So, it is important to book early, for example 2014 days are now full. However, extra days may be available where safety is an issue, for example those who need

help to restore their confidence after a driving incident. Please make contact

and we will advise you accordingly.

Gift Vouchers

Gift vouchers are available on request for both half and full days. Extra days

will be made available to accommodate holders of a gift voucher.
